BT-1 Remote

Updated on

The SmallHD BT-1 Remote allows wireless control of our on-camera monitors. This can be useful when the monitor is in an inaccessible location, touching the monitor might disturb the camera, or when using a touchscreen is not a good option.

Compatibility

The BT-1 Remote will work with any of our monitors that are not Legacy Products:

  • 500 Series
  • 700 Series
  • FOCUS Series
  • Cine7 Series

The remote can only be paired with one monitor at a time, but you can pair multiple remotes with one monitor (up to 3).

Connecting the Remote

To connect the remote, go to the Settings menu under Remote and make sure it is enabled. Hold the blue joystick down for about 5 seconds. You should see the Remote link under the status column. Select it on the monitor and it will “bind”. Once this is tied (Active), it will work as a normal joystick would. It will blink blue light slowly when paired. It will blink fast blue when not paired. If pairing fails, try power cycling the monitor.

When first connecting your remote to a monitor, or after any firmware update on the monitor, your remote’s firmware may be automatically updated by the monitor. This update may take up to 4 minutes. Please keep the remote next to the monitor during this time. If the update is interrupted, such as from the remote moving out of range of the monitor, erratic behavior including persistent disconnects may occur. If you experience this behavior, turn the remote off and back on and allow the monitor to update the remote’s firmware.

Settings

Selecting an “active” remote in the menu setting will give a few options for joystick orientation:

  • 90°
  • Filp X
  • Filp Y

There is also a setting to Unbind the remote. You will need to “unpair” a remote to have it work on another monitor. This is done through the Menu Settings. Have both the remote on and the monitor on. Select “active” and choose “unbind”.

Battery

If the remote is blinking red and blue quickly, you will need to replace the batteries. It takes 2× CR1620 watch style batteries.

Controls

The remote has four buttons:

The Joystick, which can be clicked to select and moves up, down, left, and right. This will act the same as the joystick on the monitor or your touch interactions on a touch screen.

The Back or Close button [ < ]. This allows you to cancel an action or return to a previous screen.

There is an Image Capture button [ O ]. This allows you to use the image capture function and will work even without the tool being active. It works just like the hardware image capture button on SmallHD 501, 502, 701, and 702 monitors.

The power Button (located on top of the remote above the Joystick). You can power off the monitor using the remote and also power it back on.

The power button will not turn the monitor on if there has been a hard power cycle (where the battery or power source to the monitor has been completely removed or interrupted).

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

The Remote won't pair with the monitor.
-Check the batteries, they may need to be replaced.

-You will need to “unpair” a remote to have it work on another monitor.  This is done through the Menu Settings.  Have both the remote on and the Monitor on. Select “active” and choose “unbind”.

-If for some reason the remote is acting incorrectly, you can do a reset by holding the image capture button down until the Red light goes off.
