SmallHD Fleet Control QSG

Updated on

Fleet Control is a free desktop application for macOS and Windows that gives filmmakers complete, centralized control of multiple SmallHD monitors running PageOS 6.3.0 and later. From a single computer, you can adjust tools and page layouts, manage color workflows, share or mirror pages between monitors, save and load configuration profiles, and perform firmware updates all through a streamlined network connection. Every function operates over Ethernet or Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for SD cards and allowing you to manage your entire monitor fleet with speed, consistency, and precision. All actions are performed over the network—no SD card required.

Getting Started

Update PageOS

  • Go to the SmallHD website and download the latest PageOS 6 firmware.
  • Copy the firmware file to an SD card and insert it into your monitor for installation.
  • Detailed instructions on how to install the firmware can be found here.

Download Fleet Control

1. Download the Fleet Control Desktop app for Mac or PC directly from SmallHD.com. NOTE: Fleet Control is only available from the SmallHD website. It is not offered through the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store.
2. Run the installer package, accept permissions, and complete setup.
3. Open Fleet Control from your Applications/Programs folder.

Connect to a Network

Ensure your computer and all SmallHD monitors are connected to the same Ethernet or Wi-Fi network. You may use both Ethernet and Wi-Fi simultaneously if they share the same network.

Hardwired Ethernet (Recommended):

  • Connect your SmallHD Production Monitors (Cine, Ultra, Quantum) via Ethernet for the most reliable experience.

Wi-Fi (Optional):

  • Quantum 27, Quantum 32, and Ultra 10 support Wi-Fi natively when running PageOS 6.
  • Cine 13, Cine 18, Cine 24, OLED 22, OLED 27, Vision 17, and Vision 27 require a third-party wifi dongle plugged in via USB. You can purchase one here.

Verify Network Connection

On the monitor, navigate to the Network section in the monitor's settings and confirm your connection to the same network, indicated by a green light. Fleet Control will recognize and display your connected monitors under the NOT IN PROJECT tab.

Add Monitors

1. Launch Fleet Control on your computer.
2. Ensure all monitors are powered on and connected to the same network. NOTE: Fleet Control will automatically detect supported monitors. (You may manually enter each monitor’s IP address if you encounter an issue with the connection.)
3. Drag and drop detected monitors into the UNGROUPED DEVICES panel.

3. Click any monitor tile to open its Dashboard view and begin configuration.
4. Repeat as needed to add multiple monitors.

Fleet Control Navigation

Fleet Control provides remote access to most on-screen controls found in PageOS. A single interface allows you to adjust display settings, manage tools, perform firmware updates, and customize pages.

Status Panel

The Status Panel provides real-time information about your monitor's incoming video signal to ensure accurate monitoring. Input source, resolution, frame rate, bit depth, color format, and chroma subsampling info can be seen here. Additionally, a Blink Monitor feature helps to identify monitors, especially helpful in multi-monitor environments.

  • Input/Res - Displays the current input source (HDMI or SDI) and detected resolution
  • FPS/Bit Depth - Shows the input signal’s frame rate and bit depth.
  • Color Pipe- Indicates the applied color space or LUT.
  • Chroma/Range - Displays chroma subsampling and legal/full range information.
  • Blink Monitor - Flashes the monitor to help identify which device is being controlled.

Pages Panel

The Pages Panel provides a complete view of all Utility, Custom, and Default Template pages, giving you full control over page organization and customization. From this panel, you can add or remove tools (except on the Dashboard page), enable or disable tools using the toggle switch, and adjust tool parameters through the icon. You can also disable Monitor Follows Page Selection to edit pages freely without changing the monitors active display.

Page Types

  • Utility / Custom Pages Can be created or edited in Fleet Control or directly on the monitor.
  • Default Template Pages Include Exposure, Focusing, Scopes, and Framing pages, which must be created on the monitor.
  • Dashboard Page Serves as a display-only reference and cannot be edited in Fleet Control.

Page Considerations

  • You can add Utilities and Custom pages using either your SmallHD monitor or the Fleet Control app. However, Default Template pages (Exposure, Focusing, Scopes, and Framing) can only be added directly from the monitor and not through Fleet Control.
  • New Tools can be integrated into any page except the Dashboard page, via either the SmallHD monitor or the Fleet Control app.
  • The Dashboard page functions solely as a reference that displays the enabled page on your monitor. Configurations from the Dashboard page can only be done on the SmallHD monitor and not on Fleet Control.

PageOS Tool Control

The PageOS Tool Control section allows you to modify pages, overlays, and exposure tools with the same precision and responsiveness as if you were operating directly on a physical monitor. Fleet Control mirrors the familiar PageOS interface, enabling seamless adjustments and intuitive navigation. Any changes you makesuch as modifying tool settings or updating page layouts are applied instantly across all connected monitors, ensuring a consistent and efficient workflow throughout your production setup.

Each pages' tools can be enabled and disabled with the blue toggle, and configured by clicking the > button. By default, the monitor will display the page and any tools you have enabled in Fleet Control. To configure other pages without making them visible on the monitor, Disable the Monitor Follows page selection toggle.

Settings

The Settings tab provides access to most of the options available in the monitor's in-built Settings menu. Note that some of the System and other advanced settings are not available from the Fleet Control app. Click any of the links below to visit the associated PageOS 6 guide:

  • Feed - Configure Input/Output and Color Pipe parameters.
  • Display - Adjust backlight, calibration, and display settings.
  • Controls - Modify volume, image rotation, and interlace options.
  • Capture - Configure the Image Capture tool for shot matching or automatic thumbnail creation upon pressing Record.
  • Interface - Manage Pages, Status Display, and LED brightness.
  • User - Set power options, Date/Time, and Monitor ID.
  • System - Update firmware and manage system-level features.

Manage Color Pipe

The Color Pipe tab provides a centralized view of all connected monitors, allowing you to compare and manage their color settings side by side. From this panel, you can assign specific color spaces and gamma curves to optimize HDR or SDR workflows, load custom LUTs or creative looks directly from your computer, and verify that color management remains consistent across every monitor in your production environment.

Download and Update Firmware

The Firmware panel in Fleet Control lets you view, manage, and update monitor firmware directly over the network. You can check the current firmware version, select or drag and drop a compatible update file, and install it instantly; no SD card required. Updates can be applied to individual monitors or pushed to multiple devices at once, ensuring all monitors stay current with the latest PageOS version.

Multi-Monitor Configuration

Fleet Control lets you manage multiple monitors simultaneously using Shared Pages or Mirror/Sync Devices.

Shared Pages

Shared Pages allow you to synchronize a specific page across two or more monitors, while still permitting independent pages elsewhere.

Create a Shared Page
1. Select the monitors you will be using so that they appear on the dashboard.

2. Click on one of the SHARED PAGES tabs (A, B, C, or D) on the bottom right. A new Shared Page will appear on all the selected monitors' profiles.

3. Tap the Shared Page tab, then add tools to the page by tapping the + Add New Tool button. You can select as many tools as you need.

4. The selected tools will be accessible on all monitors with the Shared Page, and you can enable or disable them using the toggle switch.

Projects and Groups

The Projects and Groups feature lets you organize monitors into logical sets that match your production workflow. This is especially useful when managing multiple monitors across different locations or departments, allowing you to keep setups clear, structured, and easy to navigate.

  • Projects: Create and name projects to track specific shoot days, scenes, or setups (e.g., Day 1 / EXT, Day 2 / INT). Each project can include multiple monitors with shared pages and configurations. You can add custom titles and assign devices to keep each setup organized. Note: Projects are temporary in this version of Fleet Control; persistent project saving will be introduced in a future release.
  • Groups: Within a project, group monitors by creative role or location, such as Camera A, Video Village, or Director’s Tent, to synchronize settings and maintain consistency across devices. Groups can be created quickly using New Group from Selection for efficient management.

Mirror/Sync Devices

The Mirror/Sync Devices feature links multiple monitors to maintain consistent visuals and settings across your production. When you select Mirror Devices, Fleet Control links all chosen monitors so they operate as a single unit, displaying identical content and responding simultaneously to any adjustments. Choosing Sync Settings performs a one-time synchronization, matching configurations across selected monitors without keeping them linked. This feature allows you to keep monitors perfectly mirrored for shared viewing or quickly synced for uniform setup and calibration.

1. Select the monitors you want to mirror from the UNGROUPED DEVICES.

2. Open the DEVICE OPTIONS menu and click on the Mirror/Sync tab. NOTE: The Mirror/Sync tab will indicate how many monitors are selected.

3. Select the monitor you want to act as the primary source for all the selected monitors.

4. Select whether you want to mirror monitors or sync settings.

  • Mirror Devices: Makes all selected devices operate as a single, effectively linking them together.
  • Sync Settings: Performs a one-time sync to match settings across selected devices, which do not remain linked.

5. After selecting Mirror Devices, Fleet Control will display the selected monitors as one. Any configuration that takes place will apply to all the monitors selected.

Save and Load Profiles

SmallHD PageOS monitors support Profiles, a snapshot of all the monitor's configuration. These files can be saved and loaded directly to the monitor's SD card, or by using the Fleet Control app.

When setting up for a project or resetting monitors afterward, you can save and load profiles on multiple devices simultaneously instead of having to do each one-by-one. To save a profile, click Save Profile above and choose the desired location for the file. To load a profile, click Load Profile, navigate to the file’s folder, and select it.

NOTE: You can also use Fleet Control to restore any monitor to its factory default settings.
